EFFECT OF PANAXADIOL SAPONIN AND PANAXATRIOL SAPONIN ON THE ACTIVITY OF ATPase IN RABBIT STRIATUM MICROSOME

Abstract
Effect of panaxadiol saponin (PDS) and panaxatriol saponin(PTS) isolated from the stem and leaves of Panaxa Ginseng on the activity of ATPase (Na+, K+-ATPase, Ca2+-ATPase, Mg2+-ATPase) in rabbit striatum microsome is. reported. The mode of inhibition of PDS and PTS. on Na+, K+-ATPase was atso studied. The results showed that PDS and PTS significantly inhibited the activity of Na+, K+-ATPase in rabbit striatum in a concentration dependent manner ahd the actions of the two saponins are similar to those of chlorpromazine. On the, other hand, PDS in a concentration of 1:10-5 was found to have stimulatory, action while in a concentration of 1:10-3 inhibitory effect on striatum microsome Ca2+-ATPase. It is postulated that the effects of PDS and PTS on CNS may be related to the ATPase activity in the striatum.
