A STUDY ON THE PREPARATION OF POTASSIUM ANTIMONY TARTRATE PILLS BY THE DROP METHOD

(1)A simpie experimental apparatus as shown in Fig.1 was designed for the purpose. (2)On using the apparatus,the authors made potassium antimony tartrate pills by drop method with 25% glycerogelatin solution incorporated as water soluble base and heavy liquid paraffin employed as cooling medium.Factors causing variation in the individual size of the pills,such as drip rate,dimen- sion of the dripping orifice,liquid level and temperature of the melt were studied.The coefficient of variation in weight was found within 1.42%. (3)The drop method is simple and inexpensive.It offers many advantages:first- ly,ease of production to give uniform and exact dosage form;secondly, minimum exposure of the active ingredient to air also reduces oxidation during processing.Wider application of the method in pharmacy warrants further study.
