THE THERAPEUTIC EFFECT OF THE CHINESE DRUG YU-JIN (CURCUMA AROMATICA SALISB) ON EXPERIMENTAL ALLERGIC ENCEPHALOMYELITIS OF THE GUINEA PIG

Abstract
This paper describes the production of an experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in the guinea pig. The experimental animals Were given intradermally the rabbit spinal cord emuision-complete Freund adjuvent into the pads of both hind feet. 60~80% of the guinea pigs developed paralysis of both hind legs after an incubation period of 14~21 days. Whenthe experimental animals Were injected intramuscularly a preparation extracted with alcohol from the hot Water infusion of Yu-Jin, both the incidence and the morbidity of the allergic encephalomyelitis of the guinea pigs decreased by about one half.
