ARGENTIMETRIC ESTIMATION OF CUTISONE

A simple but rapid method for estimation of cutisone is proposed as fallows: Weigh accurately about 0.15—0.2 g of cutisone, in a 100 ml beaker, and dissolve it in 30 ml of alcohol. Add 25 ml of 0.1 silver nitrate. Shake well, and filter the'precipitate through a buchner filter under reduced pressure. Wash the beaker and the precipitate with four 10 ml portions of distilled water. Acidify the filtrate with 5 ml nitric acid Add 1 ml of ferric ammonium sulfate indicator and titrated the excess of silver nitrate with 0.1N ammonium thiocynate. Carry out a blank determination using the same quantities of reagents but omitting cutisone. The difference between two titration represents the quantity of silver nitrate used. Each ml of 0.1N silver nitrate is equivalent to 0.01473 g cutisone. The average deviation of the method is ±0.5%.
