QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF MAGNOLOL AND HONOKIOL IN THE BARK OF MAGNOLIA OFFICINALIS REHD ET WILS AND MAGNOLIA ROSTRA TA WW SMITH

The quantity of magnolol and honokiol in the bark of Magnolia officinalis Rehd et Wils and M rostrata WW Smith was determined by high performance liquid chromatogrophy. The sample was soaked with methanol and the extract injcted diretly into the column. A 250×4 mm id column of YWG-CH (C₁₈ chemically bonded stationary phase) was used with 78% methanol as the mobile phase. The peaks of magnolol and honokiol were well separated. The quantity was determined by peak height measurements.The method was sensitive, convenient and rapid.
