QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF MAGNOLOL AND HONOKIOL IN THE BARK OF MAGNOLIA OFFICINALIS REHD ET WILS AND MAGNOLIA ROSTRA TA WW SMITH

  • The quantity of magnolol and honokiol in the bark of Magnolia officinalis Rehd et Wils and M rostrata WW Smith was determined by high performance liquid chromatogrophy. The sample was soaked with methanol and the extract injcted diretly into the column. A 250×4 mm id column of YWG-CH (C18 chemically bonded stationary phase) was used with 78% methanol as the mobile phase. The peaks of magnolol and honokiol were well separated. The quantity was determined by peak height measurements.The method was sensitive, convenient and rapid.
