ISOLATION AND STRUCTURE DETERMINATION OF NEW TRITERPENE SAPOGENINS FROM GLYCYRRHIZA URALENSIS FISCH

  • A new triterpenoid lactone, named uralenolide, mp 302~303℃, was isolated after acid hydrolysis from extracts of the rhizomes of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. This structure, 3β, 22β, 24-trihydroxy-olean-11, 13(18)-dien-30-oic acid (30, 22β)-lactone, was confirmed by spectroscopic data (UV, IR, MS, NMR). Another one, methyl 18α-hydroxy glycyrrhetate, was identified to be a known sapogenin. It was first reported to be present in this plant.
