STUDIES ON THE CHLORAMPHENICOL CONTROLLED RELEASE OCULAR SYSTEM
-
Abstract
The release of chloramphenicol from the ocular system attained a virtually constant rate of 13.35 μg/h in eyes, and maintained throughout 10 days. It was designed according to the traditional Chinese drug "Long Shi Zi", prepared by the method of pilulae with a perforation in its center. The advantages of chloramphenicol ocular system are: ease of insertion and removal and better resistant to expulsion by movement of the eye because of its small size; simplicity of production and low cost. No irritation or discomfort was observed in clinical trials on 300 patients. The therapeutic values are reliable.
