THE EFFECT OF HUANG CH'IN ON TYPHOID VACCINE INDUCED FEVER IN RABBITS

  • The Chinese medicinal herb Huang-ch'in (Scutellaria baicalensis Georg.) was tested for antipyretic action on rabbits whose body temperatures were experimentally elevated by injection of typhoid vaccine. 50% decoction was given through a stomach tube at a dose-level equivalent to 5—9 g of the herb per animal. The experiment failed to show any antipyretic action which the herb was previously shown to possess by some authors.
