EFFECTS OF RHAPONTIN OF RHEUM HOTAOENSE ON LIPID AND LIPPOPROTEIN LEVEL SERUM

Abstract
Rhapontin'a stilbene glycoside mp 235~237℃, has been isolated from the rhizome of rheum hotaoense Chen. The yield was about 3 percent When rhapontin was given orally, the serum levels of lipid, total cholesterol, triglyceride, β-lippoprotein and pre-β-lippoprotein of normal and hyperlipidemic rabbits, was decreased The phospholipid and α-lippoprotein in serum in experimental hyperlipidemic rabbits, increased singnificantly whereas in normal rabbits only the level of α-lippoprotein was increased but has no significant effect on phospholipid. No significant actions of rhapontin on the sex organs of young female mice, and obvious toxicity have been observed both in acute and subacute toxicity experiments.
