STUDIES ON ANTIBACTERIAL CONSTITUENTS FROM GERBERA ANANDRIA (L.) SCH. BIP.

Twelve compounds have been isolated from Gerbera anandria(L.) Sch. Bip. Among them, nine were elucidated by chemical correlations and spectralanalysis. They are 3,3'-methenebi (4-hydroxy-5-methyl-coumarin) (Ⅰ), 4-hydroxy-5-methyl-coumarin(Ⅱ), succinic acid(Ⅲ), 5-methyl-coumarin-4-glucoside(Ⅴ), luteolin-7-glucoside(Ⅵ), 5-methyl-coumarin-4-cellobioside(Ⅷ), 5-methyl-coumarin-4-gentiobioside(Ⅸ), taraxerol(Ⅺ) and β-sitosterol(Ⅻ). Both Ⅷ and Ⅸ are new compounds. Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅷ and Ⅸ showed certain antibacterial activities.
