STUDIES ON THE CONSTITUENTS OF ZANTHOXYLUM PODOCARPUM HEMSL.

Nine crystalline components were isolated from the bark of Zanthoxylum podoearpum Hemsl. Five of them were identified as β-amyrin Ⅰ, l-asarinin Ⅲ, l-sesarain Ⅴ, neoherculin Ⅷ, (N-isobutyldodeca 2:4:6:10-tetraenamide) and β-sitosterol Ⅳ by means of spectral analyses and physico-chemical constants. A mixed longchain fatty acid Ⅶ was also isolated.Compound Ⅵ is a lignan of asarinin type. Its structure was elucidated as the r, r-dimethylallylether of pluviatilol, which was first found from plant origin.Neoherculin and compound Ⅸ are two major components of the plant.The structure determination of compounds Ⅱ and Ⅸ is still in progress.
