The Effect of Aconitum Chinense and Fu-Tze on Hypophyseal-adrenal System
-
Abstract
The ascorbic acid content of the adrenal of rat depleted significantly by various routes of administration of decoct of Fu-Tze (附子) (daughter root of aconitum chinense). It remains effective as the administration continued for four succeeding days. This effect can be blocked partially by cortison but not by pentobarbital and chlorpromazine. The active principles to this effect are probably the alkaloids contained, while the pure alkaloid—aconitine—has similar and even more significant effect. In intact rat, urine secretion of 17-ketosteroids was increased and eosinophil count of periphered blood was reduced by this drug. It also depresses the development of anaphylactoid foot edema of rat in large dose.
