PROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF m-NIFEDIPINE AND NIFEDIPINE IN ISOLATED ISCHEMIC-REPERFUSED RAT HEARTS

The protective effects of m-nifedipine (m-Nif) and nifedipine (Nif) were studied in isolated rat hearts subjected global ischemia and reperfusion. After global ischemia for 30 min followed by reperfusion for 10 min, left ventricular (LV) compliance and developed pressure (DP) were severely declined, LV stiffness constant was significantly increased (P<0. 01). Previous treatment with m-Nif or Nif prevented changes of LV compliance, stiffness constant and DP caused by ischemia and reperfusion. No marked difference in potency between m-Nif and Nif was observed.
