EFFECTS OF ASTRAGALUS SAPONIN 1 ON cAMP AND cGMP LEVEL IN PLASMA AND DNA SYNTHESIS IN REGENERATING LIVER

  • Astragalus saponin 1, one of the components isolated from Astragalus membranaceus Bge was found to induce accumulation of cAMP in rabbit plasma at the ip dose of 10mg/kg. The increase of cAMP started at 30 rain and reached maximum in 0.5~4h after a single injection. The effect of the component on DNA biosynthesis in partially hepatectomized mice seemed to be significant. The component was also shown to enhance the incorporation of 3H TdR into the regenerating liver in mice.
